As champions of education, the Ramas have also given back through scholarship funds. In 1998, JHM Hotels established the “Rama Scholarship for the American Dream” with a $1,000,001 endowment to the American Hotel Foundation. The fund, established on the 25th anniversary of the brothers’ first hotel purchase, encourages others to create their own American dream by providing students the opportunity to train at 16 of the top hospitality management schools in the United States.
In August 2011, the Ramas strengthened their commitment to education with the opening of AURO University in Gujarat, India. This private university offers bachelor and master-level programs in hospitality, culinary arts, IT, law and business in collaboration with the School of Hospitality, Retail and Tourism Management and the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina.
